UBA highlighted again in the Shanghái Ranking 2018

In a new edition of the Shanghai University Ranking by Subject 2018, the University of Buenos Aires obtained a prominent place in 18 of the analyzed fields, seven more than last year. 
 

UBA highlighted again in the Shanghái Ranking 2018 The Shanghai ranking has been developed from the collaboration and the study of the universities, where their performance was assessed in fifty-four (54) disciplines grouped into five major fields: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Biological Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences.

Four thousand out of the twenty thousand universities around the world where assessed, and only sixteen hundred appeared in the ranking, which means that UBA is ranked as one of the top 1% of the world´s population.

Prof. Dr. Alberto BARBIERI, Rector of the University of Buenos Aires, was consulted regarding the outstanding global position of the University of Buenos Aires, and he expressed: “This is a message for the entire Argentine ruling class. The University and the scientific system require a continuous increase in investment to maintain its level of excellence. In my view, this is the only way to achieve sustained economic growth”.

Regarding the comparison with the same 2017 academic assessment, UBA showed strong progress by including seven new categories in distinguished global positions such as Earth Sciences, Ecology, Oceanography, Atmospheric Sciences, Biotechnology, Economic Sciences and Political Sciences.
It is important to note that UBA has not participated, until this year, in fields such as Earth Sciences, Ecology, Economic Sciences and Political Sciences, which represents its place among the first three hundred positions as a considerable achievement

According to what has been previously expressed, in the 2018 edition the University of Buenos Aires stood out especially in Food Science and Technology, Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Oceanography, Mathematics, Atmospheric Sciences and Biological Sciences.

Also, UBA consolidated itself as the Argentinean University with the most participation, as it has received 18 out of the 33 mentions received by the argentine university system, which represents 60 % of the of the country's participation.  It is followed in the evaluation by the Universidad Nacional de la Plata with seven, the Universidad de Córdoba and the Universidad Nacional del Litoral both with 3 and finally the Universidad Nacional del Sur and the Universidad Nacional del Comahue with only one assessed field.

The elaboration of this ranking arises from the assessment of sort indicators including research productivity measures, research  quality, international collaboration degree, quality research and the highest  academic recognition.
